Simple Shots...back to basics!

Usually, I blog with a purpose in mind, a theme, if you will!  Today, I want to share photos I simply like, so I blog :)  I went out yesterday morning, for just a few minutes, 11 degrees, and did so, for one reason, a pretty snowfall.  There was still an ice-type coating of snow left on the grass and tree limbs, which, in sunlight,  is one of the most beautiful sights to me.  A snowstorm had passed, and left us in the morning with gorgeous blue skies and sun shining on a blanket of white snow.  We got around 2-3 inches, which barely even covered the grass.  I took my 7D out, AV mode, filled with excitement in hopes for that great close up shot.  I never really thought I achieved what I was searching for, but I came out with some just "pretty" shots, that are just my style.  I have recently been shooting "out of my realm," attempting some full, landscape type things.  When I went looking for artsy, macro type stuff, I felt at home.  Things came natural, angles, perspectives, focus, etc.  I was in my element-just unfortunately, in my backyard! :)  Two things are killing my photography right now--1) location, I need new ones, and 2)  I need a new lens.  I am hoping with Spring around the corner, I can get new subjects and locations, possibly some travel, and a new lens.  I cannot wait to shoot flowers and new growth!   I will leave you with a few photos that I personally like.  I feel like they represent me and what I like:)
I think I will print this one!

This was how gorgeous the sky was!  I wish I could have gotten better detail of the snow here....

Something different...

I like this lone piece of grass!  I also love how intricate the actual snowflakes are and the fact you can see an individual snowflake blows me away!  This image, though, shows my need for a macro lens!

I like how the snow looks like diamonds sparkling! Very pretty!

I hope you enjoy them!  Snow is in our forecast for a few days next week also, so check back for more if that is your thing!  Maybe next time I will travel someplace and bring you something different! Take care  friends and followers!

A Worthy Cause

A picture collage of these beautiful, precious girls!!!  See more at the bottom.

Hey folks!  I don't usually use my blog for any commercial-type activity, but I feel this is important enough to do so.  A friend of mine is in the process of adopting two girls with Down Syndrome from the Ukraine.  They are in the final stages and preparing to travel there in about three weeks.  They are in need of monetary help!  I am offering a photography session for them to raffle off, in hopes of raising money for them.  The session details are as follows: A 2 hour session, local location of your choice, you have until the end of 2011 to use it, it can be any type other than wedding (engagement, family, birthday, child, senior, maternity, etc.). The possibilities are endless! Surprise me!  These sessions are not limited-as many outfits as 2 hours can fit, as many people, and of course, location of your choice!  You will receive a CD of at least 150 images and will have full ownership of rights to do with whatever you please!  I am very excited about this as I will get to meet a new client and help out a great and worthy cause as well!  Below I am going to post a few pics from different types of sessions I have done, followed by a picture of these sweet, precious girls.  Please help my friends, they are so deserving and have fought long and hard with this battle.
Thanks in advance.  Please, if you need any photos at all, take time and buy a chance on a session!  Also, to help raise awareness of Down Syndrome, I have listed a couple of websites also!

Awestruck..having or showing a feeling of mixed reverence and respect and wonder.

Hello everyone!  I am so excited to finally share these photos and the stories behind them.  These are not so much the type of photos I usually take, but I am as mentioned in previous posts, I am trying to venture out a bit and broaden my style.  Again, my area in Kentucky was recently hit with a very minor snow and icing.  There was barely an inch on the ground, but it was apparently enough my school district decided to cancel school, and being a teacher, I too got a day off.  I had been thinking about a shoot like this for a while, but as I was sitting on my couch for the third straight morning, I decided I was going to seize the moment!  I was planning an adventure through my grandparent's land/farm/woods.  There are substantial hills, many creeks, bluffs, huge rock/cliff type formations, so I knew I was in for a visual treat.  When I was a child, up until around 10 years old, my grandparents, known to me as Mamaw and Papaw would hike through these woods daily, and when I visited, that was one of the most fun things I can remember doing.  We used to go to an area they had named "Dripping Springs."  In the winter, this area would freeze and form beautiful icicles, spanning a huge amount in size.  I remember this, and immediately knew this is where I was going.   Another sort of comical aspect to this day, funny while functional, was my attire.  On this day, the temperature high was in the 20's.  The temperature, when I got out of Randal's truck, was 19...Anyone who knows me, knows I despise being cold...SO...my Dad lent me his coveralls and rubber boots...needless to say, I was carrying an extra 20 pounds at least, including my backpack...which worked out as a great addition to the exercise I would be getting!  Truly it was an amazing day all around.  It is not often that you get to look at things so visually pleasing, just downright good for the soul, and something that you cannot find the words to describe.  When I saw the ice at Dripping Springs, I was utterly and completely "awestruck."  The photographer in me was almost overwhelmed at the artistic possibilities, the human in me was just overcome with just how beautiful this sight was.  Simply breathtaking.  It is not something you see in person very often, and to think all this time, probably most every winter I could have gone there...It is funny too, how life guides you to these things, at what seems like purposefully appropriate times...I walked away from this day with so much more than I started with...I hope you enjoy the pictures!   I tried to photograph what I saw in an artistic manner, and add an aspect of my ever-changing/growing style and creativity to coincide with the natural beauty of nature.

This is the first view I had of the beautiful ice...

Forever frozen in time...

A different viewpoint...

The drips that haven't frozen yet...

Shadows on frozen waters...nice..

I could have sat here all day...so nice!

I love the detail on this...attn. to detail always! Powdery snow....

Last look...had to leave...hoping to come back....

This is very special to me...carved when I was little-say 10 or younger....still found this left out there...NICE!  PLK...un-married initials...

This was a creek (same woods, totally different area) that we used to play in...under a bluff...while hotdogs cooked...nice memory...

These next few photos are inspired from other photographers I  follow...
