Sunsets

Recently my iphone met it's doom-me!  I dropped it and broke the screen.  Long story short, my husband tried to fix it, and had gotten the wrong part and now-no iphone for me for a while!  I had decided to not be upset about this, after all, it was just a phone, right?  Ha!  I miss it like I would miss my right hand!  I miss being able to constantly be "in the know," or seemingly having the world at a finger's touch.  But I have found most of all I miss the camera.  I miss the comfort of knowing I always have a camera, I don't have the risk of missing a shot or opportunity.  This was a very strange realization to me!   Suppose I should go buy a cheap point and shoot to keep at my side at all times, just in case-kind of like a security blanket! :)  Following along the same topic as this post, last week on the way home, I was so thankful I had it with me!  I witnessed one of the most beautiful skies I think I may have ever seen.  It had  amazing color and cloud variations.  I think it literally took me an hour to drive a 20 minute drive.  I kept stopping and snapping different views, backgrounds, and it was ever changing as well!  That afternoon, I was kicking myself that I didn't have my Canon 7D camera.  But today, I am thankful I had at least my iphone camera!  You just never know what you appreciate most, until you no longer have it!  Having said that, I am posting a few pictures from that afternoon.  Keep in mind the quality is that of my iphone rather than my Canon camera.  But I really enjoy looking at them regardless.  I hope you enjoy them also!
Take care!

This is actually a huge field. If you look  closely, there are two silos in the bottom right corner.

This is one I plan to try to paint soon.  I might attempt oils!

This one was taken from my yard.  Finally home, but I had to jump out and take a couple more pics!

This one is from a different day and time of day.  Still a beautiful sight!

This and That

Hello!  Today's post is very random.  In the last couple of weeks, life has been random.  Ranging from a seemingly ton of snow, a lot of time at home with my girls, some work here and there (teaching), fantastic weather/sunsets, and another round of Kroger flowers!   I can't really say a lot about this post as a whole, so I will just share them and comment on each photo.   I hope you enjoy!
Sweet baby girl!!!  I love the simplicity of this photo!

She was sitting in feathers...little did we know-this was about the last good shot here...turns out, she didn't like feathers!

These next few of the baby girl are special to me...I have never gotten to photograph a sleeping baby-my own included!  She was the first!

Night snow shot...really wasn't planned, just went out and it looked like a neat shot-so back inside I went to grab my camera...

This was taken at night with my 7D.  I used a bounce flash off the  white siding on my house to illuminate the ice and berries.  Again, not planned, but interesting!

I sat this flower in the corner of a window on a snow day.  I love the natural effect the white snow/sunlight has on this photo.

This one is possibly a favorite of the flowers... I really like how the tree through the window looks also...

Yep, nothing like being 5 and catching your first snowflakes on your tongue!

I like how the tree reflected on the snow...I was longing to travel to take pics on this day, but again, my yard had to suffice!

If you are a friend of mine of FB, then you have seen the "unlikely pairs!"

This is an extremely difficult shot for me, I didn't have the equipment necessary to take care of the extreme light and harsh shadows, but sometimes, they still come out worth looking at :)  This one, I think, is just pretty, and nice to look at, which is sometimes what it is all about to me!

details, pay attention to life's details...

I like to think of this as very abstract, and very much appealing to the eye.  It is actually a holly berry bush's leaf, covered in ice.  I thought it was just simply interesting, and as a photo, could pass as something you might hang on the wall...who knows?

So, this is it for now.  It is a sampling of what my camera has been capturing lately.  With warmer weather approaching and Spring around the corner, I hope my camera gets a heavy workout!!!  Can't wait to see what adventures lie ahead!  Take care, and goodnight!

February Flowers

Flowers. Enough said.  Anyone who follows me in the least knows flowers are my game!  Each flower shoot is a challenge to myself to take it to the next level, try something different, push my skills/learning to the limits, create something unique that one would consider art.  Inspiration-I can't put my finger on it...  When I am given the opportunity to shoot flowers, I just sink into another world.  They are no longer flowers, just an opportunity to create something new out of something already beautiful.  I like to bring out imperfections, make them beautiful.  I love Georgia O'Keefe, and from time to time I can really capture her style in my photography.  Others who shoot flora art are also an inspiration.  I love to constant study those who are better, and examine what they do.   Having said all of that, I hope you enjoy these next few photos.  I have purchased a Spring bouquet from Kroger and took them outside on my front porch, attached my flash and homemade diffuser. Some of them are natural light, some are with my flash.  I personally really like these because of the light, yet vibrant colors.  Some of these at first glance, took my breath away...but after I have looked at them over and over, the perfectionist in me has torn them apart.  I hope as first lookers, you like them, just as I did at first glance.
Enjoy, and take care!
This is on an old patio chair.  I love the repetition, patterns, vibrant color contrast with the fade....

I really like the background on this one!  Contrasting colors, softness...

This one is really neat...lots going on here!

I faded the color on this one...it is not natural, but I like the treatment!

I like the focus here!

My Georgia O'Keefe inspired flower.

This was one of the breathtaking ones...what do you think?

I liked the tree in the background.

I like the focus/composition of this one a lot.

What I think I like about this one, is the little pink flower underneath the yellow.

Possibly a fave, my buttercups are coming up!
I thought I would end with the sprouting Buttercups.  I have probably never noticed this before.  Here in the midst of the historical winter storm, and our snow-ridden Winter here in Kentucky, is this little tiny sign that yes, Spring is on it's way.
Goodnight friends and followers!

A Good Day

A good day for me is a day with my camera.  Well, that isn't entirely true, it is a day in which I have my camera in my hand, and am photographing something I love.  I had two of those kinds of days this past weekend!  On Saturday, I woke up around 6:15 or so, and looked out my kitchen window.  I think my jaw literally dropped.  I had to get outside and capture the gorgeous sunrise, so I did!  Usually I am in route to work and don't have time to stop and "seize" the moment!  What a great start to the day!  Later that day I had the joy of spending the first warm day in a long time at the Jeff Davis Monument with my girls.  I took my camera and made some great, natural pictures of them playing.   Then as we left it was nearing sunset and I could tell it was going to be amazing, so in keeping with my theme for the day, I began looking for a magical spot-no such luck with that.  However, I did get home just in time to catch a couple of shots, not the best, but representative, and fulfilling of my purpose in keeping with my photography-theme Saturday :)   So I began the day with a sunrise shot, shot my girls throughout the day, and finished off with a sunset shot to close my day.  I will end this post with a few shots of my day-documenting my fun.  The next post will include Sunday's fun-flower photography!
Enjoy!
My sunrise...

Refusing to look!

The Mom in me loves this1

I love this one.  This is trendy and so her!
My loves!
She said, "Hey Mom, how about this?"

I love the contrast in the orange leaves and spectacular blue skies!

I really like the colors in this one!  One of my favorites!!!

This was the best shot I had at a full picture of the monument.

This spot is one of my faves...quiet and simple...and pretty green!

The view of the skyline at my house is not all that attractive, but the powerlines sometimes work

So, for me, photographer hobbyist/mom, this was a fantastic day-start to finish.  Next blog, possibly best flower shots with my 7D!  I can't wait to share!!!
